Sekolah Lentera Harapan (SLH) was established in 1995 to serve young generations in Indonesia with certified Christ-centered, Holistic Christian Education. SLH have become parents’ partners in educating children who are entrusted to us by God. Our leaders and teachers in SLH love our students like they love the Lord, making school feel like home. Thus it is legible to call SLH a Second Home for students. Every learning process in SLH is always directed to our founders’ vision; True Knowledge, Faith in Christ and Godly Character. In order to achieve this, SLH applies a developed National Curriculum to enable our students to achieve the best academic excellence. Our teaching methods are designed with adjusted methods to help each student to grow creatively and think critically.

Our founders in Yayasan Pendidikan Pelita Harapan (YPPH), the late Dr. Yohanes Oentoro and Dr. James Riady has a vision to build 1000 SLH schools in every corners of Indonesia, so education may be enjoyed by every layers of Indonesian society. This includes children who come from economically-challenged families who longed for school. YPPH supports them by fixating a school fee that is affordable for Indonesia’s general public. Our first SLH was built in Lampung in 1995, now it is in 16 different cities in Indonesia which include Nias, Medan, Lampung, Jakarta, Tangerang, Toraja, Palopo, Ambon, Kupang, Papua, Tomohon and Mamit. There are 7,000 students registered in all of our SLH branches and are supported by 550 teachers and staff.

Many of SLH graduates also continue their education to various universities, and YPPH exclusively help them by giving 100% scholarships to the alumni who continue their higher education in Universitas Pelita Harapan, Tangerang, Indonesia. These alumni who enrolled in UPH takes Teachers College, Nursing, Psychology, Law, Music, International Relations and Visual Communication Design as their major field of study, living their dreams. We hope that after they finish their higher education, they will return to their homeland to become future leaders and help develop their homes.
